What to bring to the FE exam

The FE exam can be stressful for most people as it is a critical stage in any engineer's career. This is why it's important to bring all the essential things to the exam that will help you pass it as smoothly as possible. Being prepared for the FE exam saves you a lot of time and effort, and instead of wasting time looking for a tissue, it's better to spend it on the questions to get a better score.

The most crucial thing to bring to the FE exam is a government-issued identification that includes a photo, be it a passport or a driver's license. The identification needs to be signed and current (valid) in order to be accepted for the FE exam. Without it, you risk not being admitted, and you'll have to book a new appointment. Make sure that the name on your ID card matches the name on your appointment confirmation letter. This letter will be emailed to you 2 to 3 weeks before the exam, and it's recommended that you bring a copy of it in order to fasten the check-in process at the exam entry. You also need to bring a calculator that is approved by the NCEES to the exam, as you will need it to solve several issues.

Other than that, you are allowed by Pearson VUE to bring a number of items, such as earplugs, tissues, noise-canceling headphones, and a notepad. All of the mentioned items can be of use during the exam regardless of the examinee's needs. Earplugs and noise-canceling headphones can help you focus more and "listen" to your ideas instead of the noise going on around. Tissues can be used on several occasions, and it's a must-have in any exam. And if you are a person who needs to write down his ideas, a reusable and erasable notebook is essential during the FE exam. You might also need to bring extra batteries for your calculator, and since the break is only 25 minutes, you'll probably need a snack or two as well.

It is important to note that what's an examinee needs to bring to the exam varies from one to another. If you need an inhaler, bring it; if you need eyeglasses, bring them. However, most items are allowed without their cases.

You can write a list three to four days prior to the exam of everything you need to bring to the FE exam, whether it's mandatory like the ID or for personal use like a light sweater in case you get cold.
