Even if you have perfect grades in college and you obtained that engineering degree with high scores, you are still missing something if you aren't licensed and want to receive great job offers. They don't tell this in college, but employers don't look for good grades only, but for candidates who have a strong internal drive and motivation to pursue a career. To show your future employer that you don't lack dedication and that competitive spirit, you should book an appointment to take the FE exam. It's proof that you have acquired enough knowledge to launch your career as an engineer, and it gives you something that sets you apart from all the other candidates.
The FE is a required exam for professional engineering licensure. It is created to test the candidate's knowledge and understanding of all the concepts studied during an ABET-accredited engineering program.
However, in order to take the FE exam, there are fees that you have to pay. Currently, the exam costs a total of $175 after it was reduced by $50 in 2018. The decision was taken at the NCEES's annual meeting in 2016. The organization took this step to ensure that costs are not a factor that prohibits some engineers from getting licensed. For all the opportunities, FE license provides to the examinees, $175 is not a high price to pay. The payment is sent directly to the NCEES before the exam. As all the FE exams are now computer-based, the registration is online, and all payments are made via a VISA or MasterCard credit card. If you reschedule at least 48 hours before the exam, you'll be refunded $125 as $50 is the administration fee.
